Video: Karnataka men carry father’s body on bike after failing to find ambulance

Two men in Karnataka’s Tumkur district were forced to carry the body of their 80-year-old father on a motorcycle, claiming that they did not find an ambulance.
Honnurappa, who had been undergoing treatment at the government-run hospital, died during treatment.
With no ambulance available at the hospital, Honnurappa’s sons carried his body on a motorcycle to their home.
Speaking about the incident, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Tumkur, Dr Chandrashekar, said that an ambulance was arranged to carry the body, but the man’s family did not wait for the ambulance to arrive.

“Yesterday, a patient was brought to the hospital in a serious condition in a 108 ambulance. After the doctor’s examination, the patient was declared dead. The 108 ambulance does not transport dead bodies as it is used for transporting pregnant women and other patients. We had arranged for another ambulance to transport the mortal remains back to their village,” he said.
“However, while it was on its way to the hospital, the family members did not wait and instead transported him on a bike. There is no shortage of vehicles,” Dr Chandrashekar added.
